ALCiS® Racing Triathlon Team Member Wins Ironman World Championship
Heather Jackson Dominates Age Group and Honored 10th Fastest Female
San Jose, Calif. - October 29, 2008-Heather Jackson, a 24-year-old school teacher from San Jose, CA, dominated her age group en route to a World Championship title at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii on October 11, 2008. Jackson's overall time of 10 hours 23 minutes was nine minutes faster than her nearest competitor as she won the 18-24 age group. Jackson was also the 10th fastest overall female.
The 140.6 mile Kona course is extremely challenging and is considered the "Superbowl" of Ironman events. Jackson completed the 2.4 mile swim in 1 hour 11 minutes, in 11th place. Jackson then had the 5th overall fastest bike split for all women at 5 hours 23 minutes, even with mechanical problems that cost her five minutes. Jackson headed into transition with a 20 minute lead and headed out on the marathon course in 90 plus degree temperatures. She completed the 26.2 mile run course in 3 hours 43 minutes. "It was one of the best days of my life, and certainly 10 hours and 23 minutes that I will never forget," said Jackson. "I’ve been gearing up for Kona since March, and this race was the culmination of my season - it meant everything to me."
In her first full year in the sport of triathlon, Jackson has won three world titles - Rhode Island 70.3, Boise 70.3, and the Ironman World Championship. She also has two second place finishes - Oceanside 70.3 and the Wildflower Triathlon.
"I enjoy the hard training that has enabled me to do this well in triathlon," said Jackson.
